HORMONE BALANCE FOR MENOPAUSAL WOMEN These statements have not been evaluated by the Food & Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, cure, treat or prevent any disease. If pregnant or lactating, consult a physician before using. The following is an excerpt from, "What Your Doctor May Not
tell you about Menopause"

"The biggest threat to the hormone balance of menopausal women is doctors who want to put them on HRT (hormone replacement therapy). Be wary of another pattern I've been hearing about from women and their doctors: Women in their late forties or early fifties pay a visit to their doctor, who insists they begin taking HRT. The woman complies and returns a year later for a Pap test, Hopkinswhich shows abnormal tissue growth. The doctor does not tell the woman that this tissue growth may well be caused by the HRT, but does tell her she has a "precancerous" condition and must have a hysterectomy right away. After the hysterectomy, she is once again put on HRT. What's wrong with this picture? First of all, I don't know of any reason why any woman should be subjected to synthetic hormones. The natural hormones are available and are much safer and freer of side effects. Secondly, there is only a very small percentage of women who ever need estrogen supplementation, and then they may only need some vaginal cream to treat vaginal dryness. Most women go through menopause just fine, thank you, and, at most, need some progesterone. The third thing wrong with this picture is that the "precancerous" changes in tissue that show up on a Pap smear when a woman is on HRT or is estrogen dominant will, in all likelihood, disappear after a few months of taking progesterone. This tissue growth is directly caused by estrogen, is very slow growing, and poses no short-term threat. There is no reason to panic or rush into surgery. If you are experiencing hot flashes and vaginal dryness or any of the symptoms of estrogen dominance, try some progesterone cream. If that doesn't help, try a small amount of estrogen (either estrone or estriol vaginal cream) for a few months, and then taper it off very gradually over another two months. Chances are, you'll only need to take the estrogen for a few months to a year before your hormones begin to come into balance. Menopausal symptoms are caused not so much by declining hormone levels as by an abrupt drop in hormones. Most severe so-called menopause symptoms are caused by surgically induced menopause in the form of a hysterectomy. As we age, our digestion is not as efficient, and we don't absorb nutrients as well as we used to. For this reason I emphasize taking good care of your digestion by eating plenty of fiber and either eating yogurt regularly or taking acidophilus supplements to provide "friendly" bacteria to your intestines."
